A Mexican restaurant chain specializing in regional cuisine was preparing to open its first New York location in Hell’s Kitchen at 806 9th Ave. Founded in 1988, in the Mexican state of Sonora, Los Arbolitos De Cajeme is a full-service restaurant that has built its brand on both seafood dishes, such as ceviches and aguachiles, and grilled meat dishes that are popular in Sonora.

What Now New York reached out to the potential franchisee for the location before publication and was informed that the project was at a very early stage. Unfortunately, the franchisee followed up by saying the project had been abandoned after an agreement could not be reached with Los Arbolitos De Cajeme, adding, “We will not be moving forward with that concept or opening at the location.”

Editor’s note: This article has been updated with information from the potential franchisee regarding the project’s cancellation.
