A new fine-dining restaurant is on its way to the Upper East Side. Design company Roman and Williams plans to open the spot inside the new Sotheby’s auction house at 965 Madison Avenue, according to Eater NY.

Details, including name and opening timeline, surrounding the project remain unknown. It appears that the project is still in the early stages of development.

Roman and Williams has been on the building design scene in New York City since it was founded by Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer in 2002.

“In the two decades since its founding, Roman and Williams has created renowned hotels, restaurants, homes and cultural spaces around the world,” the Roman and Williams website states. “Celebrated for their ability to translate timeless traditions into a modern context, Roman and Williams has become synonymous with beauty and integrity, creating spaces that heighten the senses and objects that elevate the everyday.”

The team is behind designs such as the RW Guild Store, Jean-Georges’s restaurant The Tin Building and French spot Le Coucou. Roman and Williams also opened its own French fine-dining restaurant La Mercerie inside the Roman and Williams Guild in 2017.

As of now, it is unclear if the new restaurant in the Sotheby’s building will serve French cuisine or have a similar concept to La Mercerie, but La Mercerie chef Marie Aude-Rose is expected to be involved in the new project.
