In 2023, Andy Gottlieb opened the first Sandwell location, bringing a new sandwich shop to the Upper West Side. Now, he is preparing for the brand’s first expansion. Sandwell will open near Gramercy Park at 250 Third Avenue.

The website lists the location as “coming soon.” What Now New York got in touch with Gottlieb to inquire for further details on the new location and an opening timeline, but he declined to provide comment at this time. He plans to share further information once they are closer to opening.

Sandwell focuses on fresh ingredients. The shop makes all its products in-house, ranging from fresh-baked bread to uncured meats and specialty sauce mixes. The made-to-order sandwiches do not have fried food, preservatives, nitrates, pork, red meat, butter or cream, putting a healthy spin on the menu offerings.

“We’re here because we love sandwiches, we eat them as often as possible and we want to feel great while we do so,” the Sandwell website states. “With healthyish sandwiches, salads, sides and more (don’t sleep on the cookie!), Sandwell offers the chance to have your sandwich and eat it too.”

Menu items include the Turkey Meatball Sub (turkey meatballs, classic marinara sauce, provolone, parmesan, basil oil, arugula), the Lunchbox Special (uncured maple turkey, thick-cut turkey bacon, cheddar, avocado mash, pickles, lettuce, tomato, dairy-free avocado ranch) and the Chicken Pesto Burrata (grilled chicken breast, basil pine nut pesto, whipped burrata, roasted red peppers, tomato, spinach).

There are also vegetarian options such as the Mushroom Cheese“steak” (truffled roasted mushrooms, cacio e pepe sauce, provolone, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers) and the Spicy Eggplant Parm (baked eggplant cutlet, whipped burrata, marinara, parmesan, calabrian chile oil, toasted breadcrumbs, arugula).
