Hells Kitchen is now cooking up gluten-free options.
Senza Gluten is a popular gluten-free bakery from Chef Jemiko L Solo, a trained baker from Tbilisi, Georgia. Growing up with many friends who have celiac disease, Chef Jemiko promised his friends that he would one day operate a bakery of his own that would be able to serve them whatever they wanted without sacrificing taste or texture. In 2018, his dreams came true when he established Senza Gluten at 171 Sullivan Street, operating a 100% gluten-free environment where every guest can enjoy a beautiful meal and good company without fear of getting sick.
Offering an ever-growing selection of fresh pastries, breads, and baking goods along with full lunch, brunch, and dinner menus, Senza has quickly established itself as a one-stop-shop for all things gluten-free. In an effort to provide something that was both new and comforting, Chef Jemiko chose to specialize in one of New York’s favorite traditions – Italian cuisine. While Italian food may be ubiquitous in this city, its glutenous foundation has left many people unable to partake in many of the city’s most iconic dishes. Senza Gluten hopes to rectify that error by providing a robust array of Italian dishes like panini, rigatoni, ravioli, and desserts like tiramisu, all prepared without any gluten whatsoever.
Now, after four years of successful operation on Sullivan Street, Chef Jemiko is getting ready to bring his celiac-friendly creation to Hells Kitchen, where he has just secured the lease for the space at 626 Tenth Avenue. The location was formerly home to Le Privé, a popular French restaurant that served cocktails and wines in a Victorian-inspired brasserie space. The location is expected to seat an estimated 60 guests inside, and also offers an exclusive backyard space that is expected to seat an additional 24 guests outside.
The new Senza Gluten expansion is also expected to feature an enhanced menu, with new additions like sandwiches and hamburgers (served on gluten-free buns of course). The restaurant will also serve gluten-free pizza as well as entrees like chicken breast and NY strip steak. Dessert options include creme brulee, panna cotta, molten chocolate cake, and plenty of gelato and sorbets. Senza Gluten will be serving unique breakfast, brunch, and dinner menus, and is also looking to acquire a restaurant liquor license in order to serve craft cocktails.
Chef Jemiko is currently proposing operating hours of 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM – 2:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
