James Beard nominee Sujan Sarkar is set to open a new restaurant in Hudson Yards, according to a liquor license application filed with Manhattan Community Board 4.
The forthcoming restaurant, listed as Indienne, Elder & Apas, is headed for a two-story space on 515 W 38th St. A draft dinner menu for the restaurant describes elegant dishes like spiced monkfish tail over pumpkin risotto and uni butter.
Sarkar has a portfolio of restaurants that span the country. His first major opening was ROOH, an innovative Indian restaurant, in San Francisco. However, it’s Chicago where Sarkar found the most success in his restaurant Indienne, which earned him two James Beard Award nominations for Best Chef: Great Lakes in 2024 and 2025. The restaurant also holds a Michelin star which it received in 2023.
Sarkar is also no stranger to New York, operating Baar Baar, an Indian bistro and bar concept, in the Bowery. With Baar Baar’s closure in August 2025, it appears that Sarkar looking to regain a foothold in New York with his new restaurant.
Sarkar’s upcoming restaurant does not have an opening date.
