An exciting new restaurant is currently getting underway to open up in Greenwich Village later this year.
Gab’s is a brand new concept from Gabby Madden, a visual artist based out of New York City. Focused mainly on mixed media oil paint and needle felted wool, Gabby places a special emphasis on the relationship between texture and her paintings. Beyond her art, Gabby is also an experienced hospitality professional, who most recently served as General Manager at Lola Tavern and as Assistant General Manager at Little Prince before that.
Now, Gabby is taking her hospitality expertise and artistic sensibilities to launch a brand new concept of her own design. The concept, which she has titled Gab’s, will be opening up at 76-78 Carmine Street, in Greenwich Village between Varick and Bedford Street. Gab’s will be replacing Toriko NY, a popular Japanese that was known for its innovative tasting menu. Before Toriko, the space previously housed the French restaurant Gloo.
Gabby describes her new restaurant as a “New American restaurant serving locally sourced comfort food with a seasonal menu, focused on sustainability.” The restaurant features a total of 4,000 square feet of space, divided evenly between the ground floor and cellar. Because of this, Gab’s is expected to be able to seat a total of 84 guests at one time, between the interior tables, six-seat bar, and planned sidewalk cafe.
Gabby is hoping to acquire a full restaurant liquor license for her new space, and is currently meeting with the community board to make that hope a reality. In addition to requesting approval for her sidewalk cafe, Gabby is proposing operating hours of 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 10:00 AM – 1:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
