One of Hell’s Kitchen’s most popular Thai restaurants is currently getting ready to open a brand new expansion in Chinatown.
Thee Roosters was founded by three college friends from Thailand. Noticing that most US-based Thai restaurants were almost exclusively serving variations on pad Thai, the three friends wanted to introduce an innovative chicken dish that was both distinctive and faithful to their Thai background. They also wanted to place a stronger emphasis on the use of sticky rice in their dishes, which they considered integral to Thai cuisine.
So after mastering their recipe for sticky rice and chicken, the three decided to open up Three Roosters at 792 Ninth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. As a chicken-forward Thai restaurant, Three Roosters spices up the typical chicken dish with a diverse array of Thai ingredients and cooking techniques. Three Roosters highlights the three core methods of preparing Thai chicken: grilling, frying, and poaching – each one subtly different from the other. Of course, their dishes are always accompanied by sticky rice, pickled vegetables, and authentic Thai sauces.
Now, after successfully operating in Hell’s Kitchen and earning a glowing review from NY Eater, Three Roosters is getting ready to debut its latest expansion at 23 Pell Street. The new outpost will be replacing Boka, a Korean BBQ and seafood restaurant that shut its doors for good earlier this year. The space is relatively intimate, offering a total of 28 seats inside, as well as an additional 10 seat bar.
Co-owner Teeradej Naruenartwanich is currently in the process of applying for a beer and wine license for the space, and is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
