Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and the New York Marriott Marquis are planning to renovate and reopen The View in the Theater District in Midtown. The spot will be at 1535 Broadway.
The reimagined restaurant, bar and lounge concept will focus on capturing the historic New York nightlife scene, according to a release. The two-story spot on the 47th and 48th floors of the New York Marriott Marquis will undergo a major redesign, and the menu will be inspired by American classics and theatrical elements. The beverage program will feature cocktails and an extensive wine list.
The View will maintain its iconic revolving restaurant concept, rotating 360 degrees each hour. It will also feature nightly live music.
The Rockwell Group, a New York-based architecture firm, is leading the redesign in tandem with USHG. The 48th floor will feature a 20-seat bar and lounge that will include a full-service bar, a raw bar and a menu offering bar snacks and small plates. The bar area will also feature a custom screen behind the host stand.
There will be a spiral staircase leading to the 47th floor, which will house the full-service restaurant and live music. The venue will have an elegant feel, with touches like a piano niche in the dining area.
“Both the New York Marriott Marquis and USHG were established in 1985, and each has played a pivotal role in reshaping New York’s hospitality landscape over the past 40 years,” Danny Meyer, USHG founder and executive chairman, said in the release. “By combining culinary excellence with warm hospitality, we intend to create a destination dining experience and evening out — smack dab in the heart of the Broadway Theater District — that appeals to New Yorkers and visitors alike. At The View, we’ll be taking a look back, forward and all around.”
The reimagined restaurant spot is expected to open this winter.
