Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has been in a period of expansion across multiple markets this year, especially in its home state of New York. The ice cream shop just opened an outpost in Yonkers last week, marking the 34th opening for the brand in New York. However, there are more locations expected to roll out this year.
The ice cream brand has a location on the way to Penn Station, with plans to open at One Penn Plaza, Concourse Level Space C141. As of now, an exact opening timeline is unclear. However, it is listed as “coming soon” on the website.
What Now New York previously reported on another location heading to Franklin Street in Greenpoint, which is also still listed as “coming soon.”
Van Leeuwen finds its roots in New York City, where Ben and Pete Van Leeuwen and Laura O’Neill began scooping specialty ice cream from a yellow truck in New York City in 2008. They focus on using simple, quality ingredients to produce a variety of unique ice cream flavors.
“It’s probably no coincidence that we started out as a scoop truck in NYC, because we didn’t stay put,” the website states. “We kept going then and we keep going now; innovating, creating, never settling.”
The brand serves specialty flavors such as buttermilk berry cornbread, dulce de leche brownie and lemon poppyseed muffin, and it offers vegan flavors, as well.
It has locations across 10 states and Washington, D.C. The brand is expanding nationwide this year. It recently entered the Nashville and Florida markets, and it is expected to open spots in Charlotte, Atlanta and Chicago soon.
