An elegant restaurant in Palm Springs inspired by Alice B. Toklas, a writer and a traveler, has permanently closed. Alice B. restaurant announced its permanent closure with a social media post. The restaurant served New American and Californian cuisine with a twist of Mediterranean influence.

Located at 1122 E Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs, California, Alice B. was operated by celebrity chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. The chef duo received James Beard and Julia Child awards. The restaurant was also included in the Michelin Guide 2026 list. The restaurant was part of the Living Out group.
They founded the restaurant inspired by the extraordinary life of “Alice B. Toklas and her travels through Europe.” Alice B. Toklas was a famous American-born writer and partner of Gertrude Stein. The writer duo was famous for hosting Parisian salons in the 1930s.
On September 17, the restaurant owners announced the closure news and said, “It is with great sadness that we announce Alice B. will not reopen this fall.” The restaurant closed its doors on June 30 for summer break, according to a social media post.
Talking about its journey, the owners stated that “Alice B. has always been more than just a restaurant”. The restaurant was a popular family-friendly gathering spot.
The owners added, “Gertie’s Salon & Bar will continue to operate in the location under the management of Living Out.”
