Sweets and Meats BBQ has permanently closed its doors for all Cincinnati locations. The restaurant shared an official closure notice on April 26, citing financial challenges and health concerns.
After Over a Decade, Sweets and Meats BBQ Shut Down Operations
Owned by Kristen Bailey and Anton Gaffney, Sweets and Meats BBQ has officially closed down after 12 years of operation. The restaurant launched as a BBQ food truck in 2014 and was known for serving slow-smoked meats.
It opened a brick-and-mortar location in 2017 to manage catering services and events. Over the years, the business expanded with additional food trucks. The restaurant owners were awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Ohio Business Person of the Year Award in 2019.
The restaurant built a strong reputation in the Greater Cincinnati area and opened its first dine-in restaurant at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center inside the Herald Building in September 2024.
The eatery shut down its dine-in restaurant, food trucks, and catering services on April 26, according to a Fox19Now report.
The restaurant owners shared the news of its closure with a message on social media. They said, “With grateful hearts, we share that Sweets & Meats BBQ has officially closed.”
In the post, the team thanked the community for its support and said, “Thank you for every visit, every order, and every moment of support. You made this journey possible.”

Financial Challenges and Health Concerns Led to Closure

The owners of the restaurant stated that the decision to close was driven by financial pressures and health issues.
“For 12 years, we poured everything into this business and into serving our community. This decision comes after significant financial challenges and a need to prioritize health,” the owners said.
In the Fox19Now report, Bailey stated, “I can’t pass those expenses on. That’s the biggest difference. I’m paying 3 times more, but I’ve only gone up a dollar in 5 years. That’s not sustainable.”
The owners of the restaurant highlighted that the continued rising costs and decreasing customer traffic had made operations difficult.
Even though Sweet and Meats BBQ’s chapter has closed in Cincinnati, the owner remains hopeful and shared, “There may still be more to come.” Anton aspires to keep our dream alive & carry the legacy forward. Stay tuned.”
The closure of Sweets and Meats BBQ marks the end of its longstanding legacy in the local dining scene.
