The country’s largest revolving sushi bar chain is preparing to open a new location in Orange, according to the brand’s website. Kura Sushi USA, Inc. is working on plans for a store at 1500 E Village Way, at the Village of Orange shopping center.
Construction documents show Parkway Construction is handling the buildout for the 3,019-square-foot, 98-occupant restaurant, with Hestia Atelier as architect and GMEP Engineers providing engineering services. The landlord for the property is listed as TRC Retail.
The Orange location will join nearly 70 Kura Sushi restaurants nationwide, including others in development in SoCal in Arcadia, Modesto, and San Diego’s Mission Valley. Founded in Japan in 1977, it first opened at a U.S. outpost in Irvine in 2009. The company went public in 2019 and recently raised $64.6 million in a public offering, OCBJ reports.
Kura’s expansive menu features dozens of sushi items, including albacore toro, garlic ponzu salmon, Hokkaido scallops, and over 20 hand roll variations—plus ramen, desserts, and side dishes. The concept uses a dual-layer conveyor system, with a revolving sushi belt and an express belt for made-to-order items.
