Malarky’s Irish Pub in Newport Beach appears to have plans to renovate or enhance the place, records show. Construction plans have been filed for work to be done at the 3011 Newport Blvd joint, What Now OC found.

Data from the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Environmental Health Division shows that Malarky’s submitted renovation plans for review on June 10, and they were officially received by the agency the following day. Last week, they were marked as “unable to approve”.

It’s not clear what the details of the construction project are, or why the city was not able to greenlight the plans. The owners of Malarky’s Irish Pub were not available for comment in time for press.

Since its establishment in 1977, the venue has become a beloved institution in Newport, renowned for its communal atmosphere. Bill Hamilton, the original owner, established the pub, and it has been owned by Mario Marovic and Brent Ranek since 2010.
