The Philadelphia Department of Health conducted a health inspection at Ekta Indian Cuisine on November 3 and found several violations, including uncovered food and evidence of mouse droppings.

According to the report, inspectors cited the restaurant for multiple health code violations, including the following:

  • The person in charge was unable to name the five foodborne illnesses required by the Health Department. According to the report, the inspector reviewed the diseases and their causes during the visit.
  • Uncovered food items were found during the inspection. It included chicken in a reach-in freezer, diced onions and peppers in the walk-in cooler, and samosas and biscuits in another refrigerator, the report said.
  • A scoop handle was stored in contact with bulk food, the report said.
