A colorful setting and mouthwatering Ethiopian food welcome visitors to Kaffa Crossing. However, inspectors spotted several health code violations in a recent inspection. These include the absence of a valid food license at the restaurant.
The on-site inspector found a cutting board blocking the handwash sink. The unused refrigerators replaced the dry storage despite their damaged lids and doors, loose gaskets, and rusty dish racks.
The inspector noted that the handwashing sink in the prep area must be sealed to the wall. Inspectors observed splatter on the wall in the injera prep area. Cross Keys Cafe is located inside the Museum of the American Revolution. Inspectors found several health code violations at this cafe. To start with, the person in charge did not have a City of Philadelphia Food Safety Certificate.
The inspector on-site also noticed several areas in need of cleaning. The washing station near the front prep area needed cleaning due to residue. However, the other areas required cleaning due to the rodent droppings found.
Cleaning tools were observed on the floor, in violation of health code storage requirements. The inspector also noticed pink slime inside the ice machine bin and informed the PIC to discontinue the use of the machine.

Follow-Up Inspection
Reinspection will ensure that all corrective actions have been taken. Upon passing the reinspection, the establishments will be given their compliance status. Failure to do so may result in the revocation of their health license and other legal actions. Once revoked, reinstatement will require payment of another license fee.
The management at Cross Keys Cafe must submit their application and the associated fee for the missing food safety certificate. A deadline of 30 days from the day of the inspection is given for this process.
