A landmark tavern of Philadelphia, Little Spot II is known for its rustic look, bar food, and strong drinks. The tavern is a popular spot for bar games like pool and occasional dance parties.

The Philadelphia Department of Health/Office of Food Protection recently conducted a routine health inspection at Little Spot II on October 15. According to the official report, the tavern was found to be in unsatisfactory compliance. The report mentioned:

  • The official inspection report noted that the person in charge failed to provide a valid Food Safety Certificate at the beginning of the inspection. Establishments are required to have FSC at all times while handling non-prepackaged and potentially hazardous foods. The certified person arrived in the establishment during the inspection.
  • The officials observed that the handwashing sink in the kitchen was inaccessible, as it was blocked by sponges, and the paper towel dispenser at the same sink was empty.
  • The report mentions that the establishment was storing chemicals on the same shelf as food, equipment, and single-service articles in the bar area. The employees relocated the chemicals and stored them in safer locations during the inspection.
  • The inspection report further noted evidence of rodent and insect activity (small and large flies) in the bar and pool room areas.
  • The ice machine of the establishment was found inoperable. Officials noticed a loose rubber door gasket in the kitchen refrigerator and a missing faucet on the three-compartment sink. Furthermore, the report mentions water leaking from pipes in the women’s restroom’s handwash sink.
  • Upon inspection, the officials also found peeling surfaces in the bar and pool room and a hole near the doorway. The ceiling of the kitchen entrance had water-stained tiles, and the light switch and electrical socket were also missing. The officials further noted miscellaneous clutter in the kitchen.
  • The report also mentioned that the front glass door was cracked, and dust and debris covered the floor surface in the bar and kitchen area.
  • The report advised the establishment to thoroughly clean and fix all the broken, cracked, and stained walls, pipes, and electrical equipment. The tavern also needs to stock up on paper towels and clear the path to the hand-washing sink.
