Bar Jawn underwent a routine health inspection by the Philadelphia Health Department on November 5. The report revealed multiple health code violations, including standing water at the sink and the presence of mouse droppings.

According to the inspection report, inspectors found several health code violations at Bar Jawn. The violations are as follows:
- The handwash sink in the kitchen area was blocked by a food warmer and was not accessible for employee use at all times.
- The handwash sink in the basement prep area lacked single-use towels, continuous towels, or an air-drying device. Soap was also not available at this sink, according to the report.
- Black residue was found inside the basement ice machine bin, around the lid.
- The can opener in the basement preparation area had an accumulation of food residue on food-contact surfaces.
- Bulk food ingredient storage containers on the basement storage shelf were not labeled with the common name of the food.
- Visible evidence of rodent activity (mouse droppings) was observed in the basement area, along with a dead rodent in the bar area and small flies in the warewashing area.
- The report also noted a domestic Kenmore refrigerator in the basement and a malfunctioning walk-in unit near the trash area.
- Stagnant water was seen in the basement three-compartment sink.
- Dust buildup was observed on the fan covers in the walk-in cooler.

- Ice accumulation was seen in the reach-in freezer in the basement.
- Debris was present on the bottom surface of the reach-in refrigerator in the bar area.
- Dust accumulation was seen on the ceiling vent in the restrooms.
- The report noted a cracked wall above the handwashing sink faucet in the second restroom.
- Brooms were stored directly on the floor instead of being elevated when not in use.
- Debris and dust were found under the hot-hold unit. Dust and straws were observed on the floor surface under the bar’s three-compartment sink.
- Mouse droppings were also observed in the chemical storage closet in the basement, the report noted.
- The report further stated that the chemical storage closet in the basement required decluttering and thorough cleaning.
- A damaged or loose ceiling panel was observed above the reach-in refrigerator in the basement.
- Cracked floor tiles were noted in the seating area.
- Dust accumulation was observed on the front vents of the exhaust hood.

Follow-up Inspection

According to the inspection report, Bar Jawn was found out of compliance. The restaurant is expected to correct the violations under Section 6-502 of the Philadelphia Health Code.
