Inspectors found the restaurant did not have a required Food Safety Certificate on site. The report noted that any food establishment handling or serving unpackaged, potentially hazardous food must have at least one employee with a valid Food Safety Certificate from the Department on-site at all times during operation.
Health inspectors observed that the paper towel dispenser was empty at the handwashing sink in the lower prep area. Common food containers or bowls without handles were observed in direct contact with bulk rice.
A non-NSF/ANSI-approved microwave was observed in use in the kitchen area. Equipment not certified to NSF/ANSI standards may not meet the required criteria for design and cleanability in a commercial food service environment.
In the upstairs kitchen, two refrigeration units were observed to be missing kickplates. In the lower prep area, a reach-in refrigerator was found to be non-functional, and the chest freezer near the handwashing sink had accumulated ice, indicating maintenance issues.
Inspectors noted grease buildup on the side of the fryer. There was also grease and debris underneath the grilling pilot table. The ceiling vent was covered in dust, and the floor under and behind the cooking equipment in the kitchen had accumulated grease and debris.
The floor baseboard around the side of the walk-in cooler and the prep table in the lower prep area were observed to be missing or unsealed, creating potential sanitation and pest control issues. The report noted a burned-out light in the kitchen that had not been replaced.
Officials ordered the restaurant to maintain a valid food safety certificate. Baan Thai is expected to correct all the major violations, and the failure to do so will result in the revocation of the restaurant’s health license and other legal actions.
