Playa Bowls, the nation’s superfruit bowl shop specializing in acai bowls, smoothies, cold brew and more, is bringing its signature beachy vibes to Exton with the grand opening of its newest shop on Saturday, November 8. The locally owned and operated shop will be led by Leo Khugaev, alongside his mother, Olga Bokeriya, and his sister Sofiia. Together, the family is excited to introduce a fresh, energizing dining option to their community.
Located at 159 West Lincoln Highway, across from Whole Foods and Exton Square Mall, Playa Bowls Exton will celebrate its grand opening with giveaways and the chance for guests to soak up the tropical atmosphere while enjoying Playa’s vibrant menu. To celebrate the grand opening, the first 50 guests in line will receive a free bowl and a custom Playa Bowls t-shirt. The shop will also engage the community with 5 days of giveaways leading up to the grand opening, including one prize of free bowls for one month.
“For us, Playa Bowls represents the perfect balance. It’s better-for-you, convenient, and never sacrifices on quality,” said Leo Khugaev in a statement, a student at West Chester University who will serve as the shop’s operator. “I’ve always loved the brand’s feel-good offerings and positive atmosphere. After spending time at the Jersey Shore and discovering Playa Bowls on vacation, I knew it would be a great fit for a community like Exton, where people value wellness and nutritious food.”
Majoring in supply chain management with a focus on health care, Leo brings a strong operational mindset and a passion for wellness to the business. After experiencing Playa Bowls during trips to the Jersey Shore, he was drawn to the brand’s healthy menu and laid back, relaxed vibe. An entrepreneur at heart, Leo has been launching ventures with his twin sister Sofiia since childhood, and now their two younger sisters plan to join the team — making Playa Bowls Exton a true family-run operation.
Leo’s mother, Dr. Olga Bokeriya, a cardiologist with a long-standing commitment to heart health and preventive wellness, said opening Playa Bowls felt like a natural way to share her commitment to heart-healthy living.
“Playa Bowls makes it easy for people to choose something that nourishes their body while fitting into their busy routines,” said Olga. “But beyond the food, it’s the brand’s sense of relaxation and beachy energy that I love most. Playa Bowls brings the bright, fresh, and full-of-life feeling of being at the beach into a cup. That’s what we hope our guests in Exton experience every time they stop by.”
Playa Bowls Exton will be located near several bustling shopping centers, such as Main Street and Fairfield Place. With several fitness studios, shops, and a soon-to-open Trader Joe’s nearby, the family sees the location as a hub for students, families, and professionals looking for healthy grab-and-go meals.
Guests at Playa Bowls Exton can pick from an extensive menu of bowls or customize their own. They can choose from a variety of unique blends made with superfoods, including acai, pitaya, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal and mango. Tasty and nutritious toppings, such as fresh-cut fruits, seeds, nuts, granola, dried berries and nut butter, are also available as add-ons. The superfruit bowl shop also offers a selection of juices, smoothies, cold brews and other grab & go items. Playa Bowls can be made vegan or gluten-free, and can be adapted to integrate into Whole30, Keto and Paleo diets.
Founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, Playa Bowls was born out of the desire to recreate better-for-you versions of the acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips spanning from Costa Rica to Hawaii. The duo discovered new and unique twists on this popular post-surf treat at each beach and came home wanting more. Abby and Rob set up a blender and a small cart across from the boardwalk in Belmar, New Jersey, and Playa Bowls was born. After 11 years, thousands of team members, and hundreds of thousands of bowls later, Playa Bowls continues to offer superfruit-packed menu items with a mission to lead communities in healthy, sustainable living.
The new shop in Exton will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
