A new dining concept from the team behind 13th Street Kitchens is set to open in Philadelphia’s Old City.
Michael and Jeniphur Pasquarello will open their upcoming restaurant on the ground floor of the Society Hill Hotel at 301 Chestnut St., Pasquarello confirmed to What Now Philadelphia.
He said additional details are still under wraps, with more updates expected soon.
Built in 1832, the Society Hill Hotel stands just steps from where the Declaration of Independence was signed and across from the Museum of the American Revolution. In the mid-20th century, Philadelphia preserved the historic building through its first urban renewal program. Today, the hotel blends history with modern comfort, letting guests stay, dine and experience the city’s past, according to the website.
The former restaurant inside the hotel closed on December 31 after 18 months in business, co-owner Mike Cangi shared in a Facebook post.
“We are really excited about the crew from 13th St Kitchens coming in with an updated concept that I think the neighborhood will love. They are a talented and very experienced crew that operates several other locations in the city and started by a local husband and wife team,” Cangi said.
He continued, “We still own the business and building, we are just leasing out the restaurant space to someone more experienced than us. Appreciate you all for supporting us over the past couple years and hope to see you all in the new restaurant in the new year.
Founded in 2003, 13th Street Kitchens is a family-owned and operated group. The Pasquarellos opened their first restaurant, Cafe Lift, in Philadelphia’s Callowhill neighborhood. Twenty years later, the group has expanded to include another Cafe Lift in Haddonfield, N.J., as well as Prohibition Taproom and Chinesca.
