A liquor license transfer filed by an LLC associated with Churrascaria Saudade founder Philip Piraino suggests the restaurant will move from its current location at 230 E Main St, Newark, DE 19711 to 600 Center Blvd S Newark, DE 19702 near the Christiana Mall (as opposed to opening a sister store). The mall is situated at “the intersection of Interstate 95 and Delaware Route 1/Delaware Route 7, near the Cavaliers Country Club, and close to the center of the Northeast megalopolis.” While the new location’s debut date is currently unknown, it appears the venue is under construction. Don Pablo’s existed at the address for nearly 20 years before suddenly closing its doors in 2018.

Piraino opened the original Churrascaria Saudades in 2015 after his teenage son drafted a business plan for the establishment as his senior project. Piraino then partnered with his friend Elio V. Ferreira Jr. – a native of Brazil – to “[draw] upon the popularity of restaurants like Fogo de Chão.”

Brazilian steakhouses, or “churrascarias,” are famous for their portions, serving style, and authenticity. The cuisine is typically served by wandering waiters who shave the meat directly from a skewer onto the patron’s plate, with the amount served largely dependent upon the eater’s appetite.
