Birdie’s Links and Drinks will open at “the growing Route 299 corridor of Middletown,” according to Delaware Online. The article explains that the venue is in the “final stages of Middletown’s approval process…[and may] break ground in August and open next spring.”

Conceptualized by Marge Hannum and her two sons, Dylan and David, Birdie’s will have “indoor golf simulators, miniature golf, backyard games, and a restaurant and bar…[that will] offer family-friendly entertainment choice[s] to complement new business development[s] in the area.”

The provided simulators will specialize in golf – per the company’s moniker – but they can also be used for sports like basketball and soccer.

The venue will also house a game yard wherein patrons can participate in games like giant Jenga, Connect Four, shuffleboard, and corn hole. The establishment’s vast floorplan is undoubtedly due to its location: “an open plot on Auto Park Drive behind the Crooked Hammock Brewery off Middletown Warwick Road (Route 299). The site is just north of Amazon’s Middletown fulfillment center, the recently opened Breakthru Beverage warehouse, and the future home of STA Pharmaceutical’s U.S. headquarters.”

While the “Birdie’s” business name has obvious golf-inspired origins, it takes on a double meaning when coupled with the Hannums’ recollection of a loved one passed: “The idea behind the business started with the family looking for ways to honor [their] late Aunt Beanie, Marge’s sister Eileen Bird. They wanted to create a social atmosphere modeled after her ‘larger than life’ personality.”

The family plans to employ about 50 employees at the 30,000-square-foot entertainment space.

What Now Philly reached out to all three business partners but did not receive immediate feedback.
