Guru’s Indian Cuisine Restaurant Makes a Shift to Takeout-Only Outlet
Guru’s Indian Cuisine has operated from its Sycamore Street location in Newtown since 2015. Chef Ashni “Baba” Kumar and Priya Trivedi have managed the place for the past 10 years and have recently made an announcement. The current market rates, the hurdles in refinancing, and the ongoing financial strains have made it difficult to keep up with the operations.
As a result, they’ve shifted to takeout-only service to reduce overhead. The team emphasizes this isn’t goodbye, it’s a temporary pause as they prepare for a fresh start elsewhere.
“203 N. Sycamore Street has been our home for exactly ten years on Wednesday, August 20th, but despite our best efforts, it has become increasingly difficult to secure the refinancing needed to maintain this location. For now, we will continue with takeout only, holding onto what we can and doing our best to keep this dream alive,” explained Priya.
Guru’s was established in 2015, and it is not just a restaurant to serve people; the owners believe in giving back to the community. The team says they remain committed to supporting the community, including offering meals to those in need during this transition.
