Paul Martino, founder and CEO of Bullpen Capital, is leading a group of five other founding partners that are seeking to make the historic Boyd Theatre, located at 1910 Chestnut St., the new home to a Stephen Sarr restaurant that will also feature a tech-based, sports entertainment component.
Bankroll at the Boyd Restaurant is seeking to operate the ground floor space of the former Boyd Theatre, according to an application filed with the Philadelphia City Planning Commission. Bankroll seeks to renovate the historic building’s current marquee and signage to replicate a previous version of the Philly landmark.
Before filing this application, Bankroll previously sought after a lease with The Drexel Building at 15th and Walnut streets. It was envisioned to be a 24,000-square-foot casino and entertainment venue. Bankroll at the Boyd will be slightly smaller at about 18,000 square feet.
Bankroll is estimated to be an $18 to $20 million dollar project. Bankroll partners were not immediately available for comment, but Bankroll will utilize technology in its business model for a more immersive experience, according to a comment made by partner Marc Rayfield last year.
The venue will use tablets or customer’s smartphones to access an app for ordering food, controlling TV channels, reviewing odds and placing bets through partnerships with sports books.
The venue does not have a set opening date yet. Check back to What Now Philly for future updates.
