David Backhus, the restaurateur behind Bloom Southern Kitchen and Oori, is entering the coffee scene with Collective Coffee & Bakery. Backhus and co-owner Tim Cone are shooting to open the 2922 Conestoga Road location in late spring.

Collective Coffee & Bakery is currently awaiting its final inspections. The cafe is actively hiring baristas.

Collective Coffee & Bakery is taking over the space previously inhabited by Sucre Bake Shoppe.

Backhus envisions Collective Coffee & Bakery as a welcoming local hangout with great food and exceptional coffee. Speaking to What Now Philadelphia, Backhus states “We really hope to become a place where guests can meet, gather and relax in a beautiful and welcoming space.”

In addition to seasonal baked goods, Collective Coffee & Bakery will feature small-batch roasted coffees and an espresso bar. Backhus says “The delicious smells of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods will permeate throughout the space. We will have a scratch bakery, serving a variety of delicious pastries including sweet and savory croissants, bagels, scones, cookies along with a good number of gluten-free pastries as well.”

Collective Coffee & Bakery will be open daily. The shop will be open Monday through Friday, from 6 am to 3 pm, and from 7 am to 3 pm on the weekends.
