A Manayunk bakery known for its sweet vegan treats and commitment to social justice is expanding to East Falls this fall, according to Technical.ly.

Crust Vegan Bakery, founded in 2015 by North Carolina native Meagan Benz and her former business partner Shannon Roche, opened its first brick-and-mortar shop in 2020. After five years in Manayunk, the bakery is ready for an upgrade—expanding its offerings while staying true to its original mission.

“We value high quality ingredients and strive to purchase local products when possible to support other small businesses & local makers as well. We are woman owned and operated, all natural, and all vegan. We also make sure there is always room to give back to our community within our costing structure, because being able to donate food and funds to causes we feel passionately about is a privilege that we embrace wholeheartedly,” the bakery’s website reads.

The outlet reported the new location will feature a commercial kitchen and, for the first time, in-house seating. Guests can look forward to an expanded menu including lunch options and a full beverage lineup, complete with a new espresso program.

Benz also plans to host events in the space celebrating Philadelphia’s queer community and people of color, hoping to make her bakery a place that represents and welcomes everyone.

Crust Vegan Bakery offers everything from brownies, cinnamon rolls and scones to cheesecakes, cupcakes and cookie cakes, all available for catering or made to order. The bakery also partners with numerous cafes and businesses across the city to sell its pastries wholesale.

The bakery is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed Monday and Tuesday.

For updates on the relocation, visit the shop’s website and follow along on Instagram.

What Now Philadelphia reached out to the Crust Vegan Bakery team, however, they have not yet responded. This article may be updated.
