Darnel’s Cakes is set to bring delicious flavors to Philadelphia this August.
Kyle Cuffie-Scott and business partner Joseph Lope will open their shop at 990 Spring Garden St., The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
This will be Darnel’s second location. The duo first opened in 2020 inside the lobby of 444 N. Third St. Since then, they’ve also appeared regularly at Farmers Markets in the area.
The menu features homemade buttermilk biscuits available all day, breakfast sandwiches with a blend of cheddar, parmesan and gruyere cheeses, and a breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, roasted potatoes and spicy mayo.
Lunch options include Caesar salad, chicken Caesar wrap, baked mac and cheese with optional bacon or Thai chilis, a BLT with Thai chili-shallot mayo, and a smash burger served with roasted potatoes. Sides include roasted potatoes and seasoned shoestring fries.
For dessert, Darnel’s offers warm brioche cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese icing, quiches with bacon or mushroom, a cheese Danish, and a variety of cakes, brownies, bars and cookies, including gluten-free peanut butter swirl brownies.
The shop raises funds and advocates for HIV/AIDS awareness in honor of Cuffie-Scott’s cousin, Darnel, who passed away in 2013 and inspired the shop’s name.
“Darnel’s Cakes is a mission-driven bake shop and cafe that raises awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic and supports local and national organizations that are at the forefront of fighting the virus, disease, and stigmas,” the shop’s website reads.
Darnel’s Cakes is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop is at the Lansdale Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and appears at the Fairmount Farmers Market on the first and third Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
