Husband and wife team Andrew Underwood and Annabel Figueroa will be bringing Donerds to Bethlehem later this summer, reports local media outlet Lehigh Valley Live. The new shop, located at 3 East 4th Street, is on course to open its doors by mid-July.

Donerds will be occupying an 800 square foot building that previously housed a laundromat. Construction is currently underway at the South Bethlehem location.

Underwood and Figueroa currently run a Donerds in Jim Thorpe. Underwood spoke to What Now Philadelphia about the Bethlehem expansion, citing the success of the current location and saying “We love Bethlehem. It’s a great city and there’s a need for a great donut shop in the area.”

Once complete, Figueroa will manage the new Donerds, while Underwood oversees the Jim Thorpe store.

Underwood and Figueroa brought the Donerds formula to America from Santiago. Underwood explains that the name is a reference to the care the couple put into crafting their wares, stating “We’re the science of the perfect donut and coffee.”

Underwood adds that the portmanteau of  “Donerds” allows the pair to acknowledge the concept’s Chilean and American influences, since “donut” and “nerds” are the same words in both English and Spanish.

Donerds’ Bethlehem location will feature the same menu as the Jim Thorpe store, with the addition of espresso drinks.

Donerds established itself as a Jim Thorpe favorite through its impressive selection of classic and innovative donuts, ranging from stalwarts like the glazed donut to unique recipes like the Oreo cheesecake donut. The bakery also sells macarons, breakfast burritos, and a wide assortment of coffee drinks.
