Grabbing a quick cup of coffee on the go will soon be even easier for Voorhees, NJ residents. A Dunkin’ Donuts with a drive-thru has been proposed for southbound Route 73, according to 70 and 73. Patidar Brothers LLC, of Lawnside, NJ, wants to tear down Apple Auto repair shop, at 101 NJ-73 at the corner of Lake Villa Drive, and build the drive-thru Dunkin’ Donuts on 0.7 acres of space. The company has several Dunkin’ Donuts franchise locations in the area. The property is listed owned by Anthony and Michael Micciche, who also own Micciche Auto Parts and the junkyard next door on Route 73.
The Voorhees Township Zoning Board of Adjustment approved the Patidar Brothers’ request to build on 0.7 acres instead of the required 2 acres. They also granted the project a variance to run a fast-food operation on the property. Zoning law currently permits restaurants but not fast food restaurants. Several other variances for setbacks and signage were also approved, though zoning board members didn’t all agree on the project’s benefits in the area due to traffic concerns.
Dunkin’ Donuts was founded in 1950 by Bill Rosenberg, who opened the first location in Quincy, MA. He started to franchise five years later. Dunkin’ Donuts is now owned by Inspire Brands who have more than 11,300 locations worldwide, and serves 3 million customers every day.
