Easy as pie! A beloved Easton bakery known for its signature pies is moving to a larger location this fall.
Pie + Tart, owned by friends Lisa Yelagin and Anne Gerr, is relocating from 444 Northampton St. to a bigger storefront just down the street at 349 Northampton St.
“We always said that we were perfectly happy here. It was exactly the right space for just the two of us to do our little thing until seven years in, it became too small,” Gerr told What Now Philadelphia. “The thing that we said we would never do, we did.”
The duo met in 2018 while working out of the shared commercial kitchen at Common Space in Easton. At the time, Yelagin operated a cafe in the front, serving traditional Australian pies, sides, baked goods and drinks. Gerr was reentering the culinary world with a monthlong pop-up restaurant called Tart, featuring Mediterranean fare. Later that year, they teamed up to launch Pie + Tart, according to the shop’s website.
Like the original location, Yelagin and Gerr plan to keep Pie + Tart’s made-from-scratch staples on the menu, including savory favorites such as chicken pot pie, chicken curry pie and Australian meat pie with peppery ground beef. Their popular sausage rolls will also return. On the sweet side, the bakery will continue offering apple and fruit pies, along with its “wildly popular” banana foster cream pie.
“It will be the same offerings to a larger degree. We will absolutely simply roll over what we do here into that space,” Gerr said. “Once we get familiar, comfortable and the customers start coming then we can maybe think about adding on.”
The new Northampton location will feature indoor and outdoor seating, giving customers a place to relax and enjoy their treats. The owners are especially excited about the addition, which was missing from the previous outpost.
Pie + Tart will also feature a retail section dedicated to all things pie. Customers can browse pie-baking books, pick up supplies for making pies at home and even purchase house-made fillings.
“We are not discouraging them from buying ours but we’re encouraging them to also try it themselves,” Yelagin told What Now Philadelphia. “What we’re trying to do is really be the Lehigh Valley’s place for pie people. People that love pie can come and eat pie, they can read about pie, they can buy things pie, they can see pie, and we can talk their ears off about pie.”
The shop’s interior will blend a homey, rustic and eclectic vibe, with exposed brick serving as a focal point.
“Pie is very old-fashioned and homey,” Yelagin said. “It’s all very comfortable. The food is comfortable and we hope the new space is comfortable.”
Pie + Tart is set to open in November, just ahead of the busy holiday season. For the latest updates, visit the bakery’s website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
