Get a Gato Cat Cafe will be making South Philly a little more adorable later this year. The lounge and eatery will be opening at 638 Christian Street, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Get a Gato’s location will contain a lounge area housing adoptable cats and a cafe that features an array of Colombian-inspired treats crafted by Bonnie Sarana of Vanilya Bakery. The lounge and cafe will be separated for health and safety reasons.
Get a Gato’s owner Jackie Starker sees the cafe as a response to a need for Philly cat enthusiasts, stating “The cat community in Philly is big and also very supportive, so this felt like a natural progression…Cat owners can feel left out a lot of times, so I’ve found that if you build it, they will come.”
Starker will be working closely with the Pennsylvania SPCA, who will be providing the establishment’s supply of adoptable cats.
Starker currently owns Amelie’s Bark Shop on East Passyunk Avenue. While Get a Gato will not welcome canine visitors, it will feature treat dispensers.
