Greg Gillin, owner of a beloved Manayunk brunch spot for over a decade, is currently seeking a new location.

Greg’s Kitchen, temporarily closed in June 2024 for renovations under new ownership. Manayunk Historical Properties LLC purchased the building and is planning to develop apartments upstairs. They offered Greg’s a spot on the ground floor—double the size of its current 650-square-foot location, according to Philadelphia Business Journal.

“After being closed since June 2, 2024, we are still waiting for new construction to begin and there are a couple things out of our control holding that up. The anticipated re-open date of early December 2024 has come and gone.

Hopefully, we will have a positive update for everyone soon. Whether GK opens in its old spot, in another spot around town, or somewhere else entirely, we appreciate everyone asking and being so eager to get us back into the community, doing what we love, which is serving your lovely, smiling faces,” the restaurant shared via Facebook in March.

After 14 months of being closed, Gillin is ready to relocate. He hopes to continue serving his classic breakfast dishes in Manayunk or East Falls to stay close to his loyal “gregulars.” He’s seeking a space between 1,500 and 2,000 square feet—large enough to expand his team from seven to 15 and accommodate up to 40 dine-in customers at a time.

“It’s no longer sustainable. There are more minuses than pluses [in waiting for the space],” Gillin told the outlet. “So the tale of Gregs’s Kitchen will go on. It’s just a matter of where and when.”

Greg’s Kitchen, recognized as Best Breakfast in Manayunk in 2016, Best Brunch in 2017 and Best Brunch Dish in 2018, serves hearty comfort food with a modern twist.

Customer favorites include the Manay-Oink Omelet, loaded with bacon, sausage, ham and American cheese, served with tater tots and toast. The Italian Pork Brekky is another standout, featuring three scrambled eggs, roasted Italian pork, fried onions, broccoli rabe and provolone cheese over tots. The menu also offers fluffy pancakes and Challah French toast.

Popular lunch offerings, served after 12 p.m., include the Turkey BLT, Roasted Italian Pork, Panino Caprese and Grilled Reuben.

What Now Philadelphia reached out to Gillin regarding Greg’s Kitchen’s next steps, however, he has not yet responded. This article may be updated.
