A beloved pizza joint in Hamilton Township is temporarily closed but will be blazing back into business this fall with a fresh new addition.
DeLorenzo’s Pizza, owned by Rick DeLorenzo and located at 147 Sloan Ave., has been serving its award-winning Trenton tomato pie since 1938, earning acclaim as one of the region’s top pizzerias.
“DeLorenzo’s Pizza on Sloan Ave. is temporarily closed while renovations are underway to convert our building into a combination pizzeria – dispensary! Looking forward to seeing you soon at our exciting new venture!” the pizza shop shared via Facebook.
The closure followed a state order earlier this year after the shop failed to pay taxes. In March 2025, DeLorenzo launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking support to help keep the 85-year-old business alive.
“My business has suffered considerably due to the closure of a nearby AMC 24 movie theater, the pandemic and the opening of two additional DeLorenzos Pizza shops in the surrounding area. My income has dropped drastically in the last ten years. I’m looking to raise enough money to keep my family business afloat that began in 1938!” DeLorenzo wrote in the GoFundMe post.
DeLorenzo told NJ Advance Media opening the dispensary in the same building would help keep the shop open while reducing overhead costs.
What Now Philadelphia reached out to the DeLorenzo’s Pizza team about the merger, but they have not yet responded. This article may be updated.
An official reopening date hasn’t been announced. The shop’s voicemail said they plan to reopen by mid-September or early October, confirmed by What Now Philadelphia.
