Few staples of American cuisine have proven as enduringly popular as the burger. The dish owes some of its vitality and longevity to its endless adaptability; the sandwich lends itself to both the simplest and most classic forms and to innovative reimaginings executed with unexpected ingredients. Chef Yehuda Sichel will be threading the needle between the two methods with his new concept Huda Burger, a restaurant that specializes in smash burgers made with respect for tradition and enthusiasm for the new, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Future guests will be able to scratch their burger itches at the eatery’s 1603 Frankford Avenue home when it opens later this summer. Philadelphians can look forward to sinking their teeth into one of Huda’s titular dishes relatively soon; while an official opening date isn’t available yet, Chef Sichel anticipates greeting customers to the 1,350-square-foot establishment at some point in August.
While Huda will offer both indoor and al fresco dining, the seating will be sparse, with only six counter seats inside.
Huda Burger is an offshoot of Chef Sichel’s enormously popular Huda sandwich shop. The restauranteer believes the local community is primed for his latest endeavor, stating “Fishtown is quickly becoming a burger mecca, and we think the neighborhood will really connect with a local concept that’s all about great ingredients, serious flavor, and amazing burgers.”
Burger enthusiasts can look forward to selecting from a rotating menu of 5 to 6 smash burgers. Huda will feature a classic cheeseburger, a vegetarian option for the meat averse, a pastrami fried onion burger, and a build your own option. Not content to simply reinvigorate the meat in the sandwich, Chef Sichel will also be casting his creative eye towards the bread. Each meal will be served on a house-made Japanese-style milk bun.
The burgers are the star at Hoda, however the supporting cast is equally impressive. The restaurant will also offer crispy chicken sandwiches, house-made pickles, and curly fries, alongside milkshakes.
