Flying cars may still be a dream in 2025, but a new fast-casual restaurant uses a robot to cook meals for customers.
Restaurateur Kenny Poon will open his latest restaurant, Kenny’s Wok, at The Concourse at Comcast Center in Philadelphia’s Logan Square neighborhood.
“I think it’s going to be awesome because it’s something I’ve been planning and I really want to bring this to the city,” Poon told What Now Philadelphia. “It’s basically a fast-food Chinese restaurant, but it’s cooking by machine.
The menu features classics like General Tso chicken, chicken and mushrooms, chicken teriyaki, stir fry, spring rolls, egg rolls and dumplings, prepared by a robotic cooker. Starting in the new year, Kenny’s Wok will add a Hawaiian breakfast with Portuguese sausage, spam, egg and rice.
The menu will rotate every two weeks, offering a fresh variety of dishes to try.
“If we see something that doesn’t sell a lot, then we can say, ‘Hey! We’re going to have something new coming in,’” Poon said.
The robot ensures the kitchen delivers consistent meals.
“It’s just so hard finding a good staff. Sometimes when cooking the food it tastes really good, sometimes it’s inconsistent. I said, ‘There has got to be a way to make it better.’ That’s the number one reason why I wanted to bring this in,” he said.
Kenny’s Wok is expected to open in December, though no official date has been announced.
