A local bagel concept fated for greatness is preparing to spread its delicious carbohydrates to Chestnut Hill. Kismet Bagels Luncheonette, already a known and beloved entity within Philadelphia city limits, will be opening a new location in the area later this year, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The luncheonette will breathe new life into the storefront at 8341 Germantown Avenue. The scenic space has sat vacant since Roller’s Express-O shut its doors eight years ago. Chestnut Hill foodies won’t have to wait too long to enjoy a freshly made Kismet bagel; owners Jacob and Alexandra Cohen are projecting a June or July opening.
Jacob Cohen explains that the Germantown Avenue location offered the perfect opportunity to serve Kismet’s local fans. He states “We went to Chestnut Hill in August, and looked in the window. We knew it had been empty a long time, and it really fit our luncheonette vibe to a tee. The tin ceilings are gorgeous, [there was] black-and-white subway tile on the floor, the gorgeous bar, and cherry wainscoting underneath.”
Kismet’s Chestnut Hill home will follow the concept’s luncheonette model, offering more than just the bagels customers have come to know and love. In addition to the titular treat, guests will be able to choose from a selection of bagel sandwiches, deli sandwiches, and pizza bagels. Visitors will be able to wash down their meals with a selection of coffee drinks, hot and cold teas, and egg creams.
