Kura Sushi, an authentic Japanese restaurant best known for its revolving sushi, is coming to Philadelphia in 2022. The restaurant will be located at 1721 Chestnut St.
The chain, with over 540 locations in Japan, Taiwan and the U.S., serves up Japanese cuisine with the entertainment factor of a revolving-style dining experience where your food is brought to you via a conveyor belt system.
“We’ve been wanting to expand more of our restaurants on the east coast, as the majority are currently on the west coast, specifically in Southern California,” Lauren Murakami, U.S. spokesperson for Kura Sushi, said. “Philadelphia itself is a major attraction for its rich historical heritage, prime shopping district and diverse eateries, and we felt this city would be an excellent location for us to be a part of.”
According to the company’s website, Kura companies are “pioneers of the revolving sushi concept” and “have improved upon the idea and developed innovative systems that combine advanced technology, premium ingredients and affordable prices to create a unique revolving sushi dining experience.”
Kura Sushi features an ever-changing menu featuring seasonal and themed items, that switches up the dining experience for each returning visit. Kura recipes are also free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings.
“We look forward to serving this community and bringing our technology-driven dining experience to Philadelphia,” Murakami said. “Guests can look forward to our two-layered conveyor belt system, which entails a revolving sushi bar and express belt for made-to orders, over 140 authentic Japanese dishes made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and our Bikkura Pon prize system, where guests receive prizes by eating sushi.”
Murakami stated the restaurant is currently looking at a spring 2022 opening, but timing is subject to change.
