Northampton County will be ushering in spring of 2024 with a brand-new Mexican concept. Partners CJ Moyer and Rogelio Romero are opening La Maya Mexican Comfort in Hellertown next year, reports local media outlet 69 News.
The restaurant will serve fresh, hand-made cuisine when it opens its doors at 650 Main Street. La Maya is taking over the building vacated by The Vibe Nutrition, a space which will comfortably accommodate up to 50 guests. Romero and Moyer plan to renovate the space to best accommodate their vision for La Maya.
Recognizing that Cinco de Mayo is the ideal date to launch a Mexican restaurant, the pair hope to hold a soft opening in either March or April, and ideally open to the public on the aforementioned holiday. May 5th, 2024 is aspirational, however, and a definitive opening date has not been set.
Rogelio and Moyer both bring a wealth of hospitality experience to the project. Romero runs El Charro del Rio and Moyer founded and operates Presley’s Cocktail Bar. The partners are currently working together to iron out the specifics of the menu, with Moyer stating “When we say Mexican comfort, we’re looking to offer Mexican-American-style food with a little more influence from the Pacific Coast of Mexico.”
Rogelio and Moyer also hope to take the act on the road with a La Maya food truck, allowing them to cater.
Above all else, Moyer assures customers, they can enjoy delicious and varied meals at La Maya. “Our menu will be seasonal, with a lot of fish dishes, hanger steaks, skirt steaks and so forth.” he states, concluding “We’ll be taking bits and pieces from Mexican cuisine and American cuisine. So, people can expect tacos, burritos, quesadillas, mac and cheeses and all of that good stuff.”
