Raise a glass, Philadelphians, the local wine scene is about to get a lot cozier. LeoFigs, a new concept from husband and wife team Justice Figueras and Shannon Leocata, is bringing delicious vino, beer, cocktails, and small plates to Fishtown later this year, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
LeoFigs’ owners hope to cultivate an air of “Unpretentious Deliciousness” in its 2201 Frankford Avenue home when it opens to the public. Leocata tells What Now Philadelphia that while a precise opening date is still elusive, she is pretty confident of a late March debut.
LeoFigs will challenge the common conception of wine culture being elitist and confusing. Figueras and Leocata are turning the 5,000 square foot space into a warm and welcoming environment worthy of its Fishtown home.
Leocata speaks poignantly of the neighborhood, saying: “Justice and I have lived all over the country—and even the world—but Fishtown is the first place that’s truly felt like home. There’s something about this neighborhood: the diversity, the creativity, the sense of community—it just clicked for us. It’s the perfect backdrop for this season of our lives, raising two little ones while still staying connected to the vibrant energy of the city. For the first time, we felt like we were in the right place to bring our dream of LeoFigs to life.”
LeoFigs is a true act of fusion; the establishment blends several concepts seamlessly under one roof. In addition to being an urban winery, restaurant, and cocktail bar, LeoFigs will feature a local vendor’s market. Even the name itself represents fusion-Leocata and Figueras combined their family names to create “LeoFigs”. The brand’s adorable logo was crafted by the pair’s children.
LeoFigs is poised to become a staple of Fishtown; not only the dining scene, but the community at large.
