Longwood Gardens, the beloved Kennett Square attraction, is building a new home for its on-site restaurant 1906, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal. The construction at 1001 Longwood Road is on schedule for a late 2024 opening.
Longwood is building 1906’s new home from the ground up. The facility will be 6,100 square feet and will provide seating for 185 guests, which is 60 more customers than 1906’s current location.
Longwood Gardens’ executive chef, Will Brown, is leading 1906’s kitchen. He is working with Restaurant Associates to draft the sit-down establishment’s culinary team.
1906 has not finalized its menu yet, however the establishment will grow the herbs and greens featured in its dishes in-house. Longwood Gardens CEO Paul Redman states that the restaurant intends to source the ingredients used in its garden-themed dishes from local merchants and growers.
1906’s completed facilities will contain a private dining area, a public sit-down dining space, and a full-service bar and lounge featuring a separate menu. The eatery will reflect its Longwood home in its decoration. The restaurant will feature tree motifs on the carpets and the walls.
1906 will continue serving customers in its current location until the new facility opens its doors in autumn of 2024.
