A Philadelphia-based brewery will bring its craft beers to Manayunk with a new location opening this spring.

Love City Brewing, run by Melissa and Kevin Walter and celebrated for its Love City Lager, will take over the former Fat Lady Brewing space at 4323 Main St., according to a press release.

Fat Lady Brewing closed at the start of the year. Former owner Jane Lipton called it an “absolute labor of love” and a “terribly difficult decision” in a social media post.

The 5,884-square-foot space will be transformed into a tasting room and event venue, echoing the warm, inviting atmosphere of Love City Brewing’s flagship location in Philadelphia’s Callowhill neighborhood.

“We have been looking for the right opportunity to expand for a long time. We were very conscious about choosing a neighborhood that has great energy and foot traffic, as well as one that would allow our current location at 1023 Hamilton St. to continue to be successful–Manayunk checks all those boxes for us,” Melissa Walter said in a statement.

The interior will have a vintage feel with tin ceilings, original hardwood floors and exposed brick, accented by draping ivy, greenery and artwork from True Hand Society.

The first floor will serve as the main gathering space, featuring a full bar and several large TVs just in time for Philadelphia Phillies games. The bar will be open daily and can accommodate up to 75 people. A retail area will let guests purchase their favorite brews and Love City merchandise.

The second floor will host events and accommodate up to 60 guests. Love City often partners with local vendors for its events. The space can also be reserved for private parties and gatherings.

“We plan to continue some of the successful events that Fat Lady curated in that space,” Walter said. “This new location allows us to continue our mission in a way that feels true to who we are: taking care of our team, serving outstanding beer and beverages of all kinds, and creating a welcoming third space where people feel they belong–whether they’re longtime regulars or walking in for the first time.”

The menu includes brew staples like Unity IPA, Love City Lager and Eraserhood IPA, along with curated cocktails made with Pennsylvania spirits and locally sourced ingredients. The brewery also offers a “shot and a beer” special, pairing Love City Lager with a shot of well whiskey, Jacquin’s Blackberry Brandy or jalapeño-infused tequila.

The brewery will be open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

Love City Brewing has not announced an official opening date. Visit the website or follow along on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
