Philadelphia residents can soon look forward to being transported to India, through the sweetest of conduits. Malai, the ice cream concept from Pooja Bavishi, is opening a new location in the City of Brotherly Love later this year, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The sweet shop will be bringing its treats to a very lucrative neighborhood when it opens at 260 South 18th Street in Rittenhouse Square. The area has proven a hotspot for restaurants and eateries, drawing plenty of foot traffic. Malai has not yet announced an official opening date for its inaugural Philadelphia location, however it is aiming for a spring debut.

Malai strives to inject a South Asian flourish to each scoop of ice cream. The sweet treat is made without any eggs and is churned with minimal air, according to the website.

Founder Bavishi brings an impressive pedigree to the table. The winner of Food Network’s Chopped Sweets competition launched her ice cream brand in 2015 and quickly earned fans thanks to her unique and delicious flavors. The company website describes its selection, saying:“All of our flavors are handcrafted, keeping all ingredients and spice balance in mind, highlighting the nuances of South Asian cuisine.”

Philadelphians can look forward to trying flavors including coffee cardamom, red chili chocolate, and toasted nutmeg, among others. The Rittenhouse location will offer seating for those who want to linger while they savor their scoops.
