A longtime Puerto Rican restaurant in Merchantville is beginning a new chapter.

Robertitos Cuisine, owned by Robert Cruz Cotto, will relocate to Pennsauken, closing its current location at 177 S. Centre St. on Jan. 17, according to a Facebook post.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. For the past 5 incredible years, our Merchantville, NJ location has been filled with love, loyalty, and unforgettable memories because of YOU, our friends. Your support has meant everything to us and has made this next step possible. As bittersweet as it is to say goodbye to this space, we are beyond excited to grow into a larger home in Pennsauken, NJ–allowing us to better serve our amazing community and continue evolving,” the post read.

Robertitos Cuisine serves creative dishes balancing sweet, salty and sour flavors across a wide range of palates.

The menu features nachos, quesadillas, bowls and sandwiches, along with hearty main courses such as Pechuga Monterrey with cheddar cheese, tomato sauce and peppers; Plato 511, six fried plantains topped with steak and shrimp finished with cheese sauce and peppers; and Steak Salteado, a New York strip sautéed with peppers and onions.

The new location will offer dine-in and takeout service and will add delivery.

Cotto, a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, developed a passion for cooking at a young age, inspired by his mother’s meals. He also gained hands-on experience after school at El Patriota, where he learned the fundamentals of Creole cuisine.

In 2020, after running a successful food stand in New Jersey, Cotto opened Robertitos Cuisine, which has since grown into the thriving restaurant it is today, according to the website.

“This is not a goodbye, just a new beginning. We can’t wait to welcome you into the next chapter of our journey,” the Facebook post read.

Fans are celebrating the news on social media and eagerly anticipating dining at the new Pennsauken location.

Robertitos Cuisine has not announced an official opening date or location, but visit the website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
