While what Tom Petty says is true-the waiting IS the hardest part-a great pizza is always worth exercising patience for. Deptford diners have been doing just that, biding their time until Santucci’s-a beloved chain known for its famous square pies-opens its doors. The pizzeria first announced its intentions of entering the local dining scene a little over a year ago, and soon Deptford foodies’ patience will be rewarded, when the shop begins serving up piping hot pizzas later this summer, reports local media outlet 42 Freeway.

Owners John Dingler and Steve Bombaro are still waiting on inspections for the 710 Clements Bridge Road storefront, however the pair are optimistic about a mid-August opening. The duo are actively hiring, preparing to give Deptford locals a superior dining experience.

The smell of freshly baked pizza and the chatter of happy diners will be a pretty radical departure for the property, which previously housed a Pearl Vision eye center. Alongside transforming the interior into a cozy restaurant, Dingler and Bombaro have added a patio space to the building. The dining room has six tables and counter seating for those hoping to enjoy their pizza on-site.

Santucci’s is bringing a well-established recipe and model to Deptford, one started in North Philadelphia in 1959. The pizzeria sets itself apart from the competition through its unique approach to making the pies-Santucci’s pizzas are square, with the cheese on the bottom and the sauce on top. The concept has spread to include 11 locations in the Philadelphia metro area, with 3 more in the pipeline.
