A sweet Philadelphia favorite is preparing to shake up the South Jersey ice cream scene. Scoop DeVille, which has been delighting the City of Brotherly Love for 35 years, is preparing to open its first Jersey location, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The concept, known for its made in-house ice cream, will be moving into a 1,000 square foot building located at 101 Haddon Avenue. The space currently houses a Rita’s, however the lease runs out in October.

The South Jersey location is several years in the making. Speaking of the Garden State shop, Scoop DeVille owner Spencer Philips states: “I’ve had my eye on it for years, since I moved to the area in 2020. It’s a stand-alone building that I actually purchased the real estate about a year ago and we are just waiting for the current lease to expire (October). We’ve been excited to make a move into the suburbs (both South Jersey and Main Line have been on our radar) and this seems like a great first step. There’s potential for a drive thru as well if we can get the needed approvals.”

Having already made a considerable splash with its two current Philly locations, Scoop DeVille is enthusiastic about expansion. The ice cream shop had previously courted University City and Passyunk locations that never came fully to fruition. Philips explains that timing and circumstances have factored considerably into the brand’s growth. “We’ve been in expansion mode for some time.” he states. “There’s not necessarily a specific perfect time – it’s opportunity related. Had University City or Passyunk gone a little differently we could easily have three or four shops now and looking to 5 and 6. Just depends on how the cards fall sometimes…”

Scoop DeVille takes a unique approach to everyone’s favorite frosty treat, one certain to delight future fans. Philips explains the process, saying “We make all of our ice cream in our stores, however we make them as base flavors – meaning they are meant to be added to. So if you choose from our Signature Blend menu screen, you’ll see each flavor starts as a base flavor (vanilla, chocolate, cake batter, pistachio, biscoff cookie, pretzel, vegan mint, etc etc) and then adds ingredients (usually three) including things like cookie doughs, candies, fruits, nuts. We take the base flavor and the ingredients and run it all through these very unique “drill” style machines to blend it into a brand new flavor. So cheesecake ice cream, strawberries, and graham crackers turns into a strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Our top seller is the PB Dough Boi Crunch – vanilla ice cream blended with Cap’n Crunch cereal, peanut butter cookie dough, oreo, and peanut butter. Packed with flavor and texture.”

Customers can opt to use these freshly-blended flavors to create even more elaborate and decadent desserts. “From these we build all sorts of sundaes, shakes, and so on. I especially like our Yo Adrian Stacker Sundae – it’s basically our blend product layered with toppings to create our version of the Snickers ice cream bar!”

Jersey residents will have to wait a little longer before discovering their new favorite ice cream parlor. Philips intends to hold a soft opening this winter, with a grand opening in early spring of 2025.
