Garage Sale Vintage, a vintage clothing store and bar with five locations across Colorado, New York and Nashville, is rebranding its concept as it prepares to open this fall in Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood. Previously reported by What Now Philadelphia, new details have emerged.
Founder Josh Sampson now plans to open Second Hand Ranch set for the ground floor of the 6,000-square-foot space at 1148 Frankford Ave. The concept shifted after a neighboring business filed a trademark lawsuit, according to Philadelphia Business Journal.
Last October, the owners of sports bar Garage Fishtown filed a federal lawsuit alleging Garage Sale Vintage’s planned opening across the street constituted trademark infringement and unfair competition due to the similarity in names.
In May, the case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it is permanently closed and cannot be reopened. Court records show the parties reached a settlement, with Sampson saying the businesses are now “in good standing,” the outlet reported.
The rebranded concept, Second Hand Ranch, builds on the original idea with a western honky-tonk meets rock-and-roll atmosphere. Customers will be able to buy, sell or trade vintage goods while enjoying food and drinks.
Sampson told the outlet the menu will reflect the western theme, featuring sausages, bratwurst, ranch water, and other signature cocktails.
Guests entering at Girard and Frankford Avenues will first find a 40- to 50-seat bar and dining room, with the brand’s vintage apparel and accessories displayed in the adjoining room. The store plans to feature 18 to 24 regular vendors, each managing their own racks with curated and restocked items.
While an official date hasn’t been announced, Second Hand Ranch is aiming to open by late October, around Halloween.
What Now Philadelphia reached out to the team, however, they have not yet responded. This article may be updated.
