A popular bagel concept is preparing to prove that when one oven door closes, another opens. Spread Bagelry is getting ready to shut down its Center City location, while pursuing a new home for its commissary kitchen, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The lease is up for the bagelry’s current home at 2401 Walnut Street on May 31. Spread is looking for a larger space to house its “spreadquarters” and is actively courting a few different locations. CEO Jaime Schrotberger states that he is aiming to have a lease signed within the next six weeks, and that the new space will be up and running by May.
In addition to the new commissary kitchen space, Spread-which already has a significant presence in Philadelphia-is exploring expansion opportunities in Yardley, Princeton, New Jersey, and Warrington, though specific sites have not been disclosed.
Born and bred in Philadelphia in 2010, Spread makes Montreal-style bagels with a little East Coast swing. The bakery has 17 locations open and in operation.
