2025 is bringing a new home and exciting possibilities to a West Reading favorite. Takkii Ramen, owned and operated by husband and wife team Alex Alfaro and Uyen Nguyen, is relocating in the new year and changing its name to Takkii Ramen Izakaya, reports local media outlet WFMZ.
The popular concept will be moving from its current digs at 36 North Sixth Avenue in the first quarter of 2025. Takkii fans will then be able to indulge in the restaurant’s cuisine in its new, larger space at 424 Penn Avenue, a space once occupied by Broken Chair Brewery. The eatery’s new home will allow it to feed around 66 patrons, which is twice the hungry customers it currently can manage at its Sixth Avenue home.
The move will allow new possibilities for Takkii; Nguyen and Alfaro intend to expand the menu, adding several dishes to the existing line-up. Additionally, the duo are planning to purchase the brewery’s equipment with the intentions of learning and mastering the art of beer making under the tutelage of Broken Chair’s owner Todd Bray and his son Dan Bray.
Speaking of continuing the brewery’s legacy, Nguyen states “In bringing Takkii over to that space, we thought it would be a good idea to keep some of Broken Chair’s mainstay beers because he made really good beers. So, we’re excited to keep the brewery alive and have Todd’s assistance in the beginning. He’s going to teach us how to make all of the beer recipes and will be there to support us until we can do it on our own.”
Takkii visitors can select from an impressive menu of Japanese favorites. While the star is, of course, the ramen, visitors can also feast on udon, curry dishes, and a new array of small dishes.
