The Schulson Collective is trading reuben sandwiches for escargot. The restaurant group will be opening a French restaurant called Bar Lesieur in the location that formerly housed Schulson’s own Jewish deli, Samuel’s, reports The Philadelphia Business Journal.
The space, located at 1523 Sansom Street, sits atop another Schulson concept, an underground Italian restaurant called Giuseppe & Sons. The Schulson Collective intends to keep Giuseppe & Sons open while the construction necessary to turn Samuel’s into Bar Lesieur is completed.
The restaurant group is aiming to open the modern French restaurant in late summer or early autumn.
While Bar Lesieur has not yet finalized its menu, the establishment intends to lean heavily into the use of seasonal ingredients. It is anticipated that the restaurant will offer reimaginings of classic French dishes like duck a l’orange, steak bordelaise, and salade lyonnaise.
The Schulson Collective is having a busy year. In addition to Bar Lesieur, the restaurant group is opening an unnamed Mediterranean concept in Rittenhouse Square, a speakeasy on Broad Street, and a Miami location of its Japanese restaurant, Double Knot.
