One of the country’s top ice cream chains is helping to breathe fresh life into an old mall. Van Leeuwen is getting the scoop on Monmouth County by opening a new location in Monmouth Square, reports Asbury Park Press.

Locals may be more familiar with the retail center’s old name-the Monmouth Mall. The shopping mecca, located at 180 NJ-35, has been undergoing an intensive refresh since September of last year. Van Leeuwen is one of several new tenants helping to turn the outdated mall into a dining and shopping destination.

Developer Kushner Co. made the announcement of Van Leeuwen’s signing earlier today, making it impossible to estimate an opening timeline. What Now Philadelphia has reached out to a representative of the ice cream chain for further details but has not yet heard back.

Van Leeuwen, founded in New York in 2008, has established itself as a powerful force in the ice cream industry. The shop offers a range of reliable favorites like vanilla bean and cookies and cream alongside more unexpected flavors like malted cookie dough shake and buttermilk berry cornbread. Happy news for those with dietary restrictions who still crave a sweet treat; Van Leeuwen also features vegan selections.
